Interactive enhancement of semiconductor and quantum, vertical hetero-device integration technology
The aim and objectives of this research group are to fuse "semiconductors" and "quantum" to develop a research base for AI system development. Semiconductor devices, especially logic devices, are central components in various industries and products, as well as the social infrastructure. The development and mass-production capacity of semiconductors have a significant impact on national security and economic strength. Competition and strategies at the national level for semiconductor development and production are advancing. The semiconductor R&D strategy is being greatly reviewed, and the launch of a national semiconductor logic manufacturing company in 2022 and large-scale development investment are progressing. Furthermore, semiconductors have become very important strategic materials for carbon-neutral policies.
On the other hand, there has been significant attention given to quantum computers as a device that could cause a paradigm shift in non-von Neumann logic operations, due to the limitations of conventional semiconductor miniaturization and the high cost of mass production development. By fusing and developing these technologies, the ultimate goal is to create a "semiconductor" and "quantum" R&D cluster base in Kanagawa prefecture and make it a leading base in the world.
