Research Center for ESD based on Symbiosis between ”Man and the Biosphere”

Development of a cross-disciplinary ESD program for the symbiosis between ”Man and the Biosphere” in SATOYAMA
The overarching goal of this center is to promote a transformative action toward the conservation of biodiversity, with the aim of achieving symbiosis between "Man and the Biosphere (MAB)". The Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) has set a mission to take urgent action to halt the loss of biodiversity and put it on a recovery track by 2030 in order to achieve the 2050 vision of "Living in Harmony with Nature". While transformative action toward biodiversity conservation is an urgent global challenge, the reality is that science-based calls do not always lead to transformative action among people. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to clarify the factors that hinder transformative action, to develop a cross-disciplinary ESD program that actually induces transformative action, and to empirically change society as a whole through practice and research.
